Do you have the gradient on your computer? Where should the text be??

Something like this?

Rainbow-1.jpg

You start with a bold font.

You get a  text layer in your layer palette.

Create a new layer above it, with the checkbox to 'use previous layer to create clipping mask'.

Then you use the gradient tool to create a gradient like 'spectrums'.

The text layer will be 'painted' with the gradient.
