How do I put an image into another, that is shaped and holed?

We have a logo that is circular, with 'cut out' 7 and 9.  The image is green, but  as a PNG it is transparent, so the 7 and 9 on a dark background would be dark.

We want to try and superimpose an image so for example we have a background image.  Place the logo image over it.  Click on something and it turns the green area into the 'background image' area, with the 7 and 9 'holes' still in place.

I'm not sure what this is called.

In the Image Composer from year ago, this is done really easily.  But that won't run on a Mac.  So wondering how to do it on PS Elements.

Is this what you are trying to do?

Add the picture above the logo and group the 2 layers.

If you want the area outside the circle to be transparent:

Using the shape tool, add a circle shape and resize/reposition to match the logo (Shape 1 layer in my example).

Simplify Shape 1.

Select Shape 1.

Invert the selection.

Activate the bottom background layer and <delete>.

Shape 1 layer is no longer needed so you can delete it.

If all this is not what your are looking to do, please elaborate.

Almost.  I want the '7 and '9 to be transparent too.

Basically so that the green is now the photo.

1. Open the logo (PNG file)
2. Go to Select>all
3. Go to Edit>copy to put it on the clipboard
4. Open the image that will be your background
5. Go to Edit>paste
6. If you need to reposition the logo or resize, activate the move tool for this purpose.

No - I mean I want the 'black' 7 and 9, to be transparent like the round of the outer area is.  So the Green area is the only area of 'image'.

I don't understand this .

I have added the black circle layer.

I selected to Simply Shape (whatever that means).

Then it is selected.

What do you mean 'Invert the Selection'?  Should I be selecting things and what does "invert" mean?

Guess I misunderstood. Is this it?

If need be you can then then fine-tune the picture's size and position using the Move tool.

Save the file in a format that supports transparency, such as png or psd.
