How to delete a custom brush in Photoshop Elements 2026

Community Beginner ,

I'm new to Photoshop Elements 2026. I've worked in multiple files using the basic tools with some success. Today I was experimenting with custom brushes.  Somehow, I accidentally created a brush that is essentially the outline of one of my drawings.  The brush (an actual scene) seems to be my default brush.  I've tried unsuccessfully to delete the brush.  I've deleted the brush, but it appears to be deleted only from the list.  I cannot work in Photoshop Elements 2026 as is.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you

When you create a brush and save it it gets put into whsatever brush set you have open at the time.   I delete brushes all the time through the presdet manager, is that what you are doing?

Any brush you create gets added to whatever brush set you have selected at the time you create it.  That new brush becomes part of a brush set, an ABR file.

Just select the brush (click once on the brush) you just created, it will be listed last, then choose delete.

Glenn, I have used the preset manager. My "brush" is removed from the
square grid but it still displays on my image. Please see the attachment.

Brush sets get loaded into memory as needed.

1. create a new layer, pick a different brush set.

2. make a squiggle, whatever.

3. now go back to the other brush set:  if it still appears, just restart the editor.

Thanks.  The squiggle worked so I think that I'm in the clear for now.  Tomorrow I'll try it in my other files.  You've saved me from a sleepless night!
