Image preview not available for PSD files in PE 2018

New Here ,

When I go File -> Open the window has thumbnails for JPEGS and icons for PS files.

If I select a PSD file it says No preview available.

In my previous versions of PE preview of PSD was always there.

How do I enable it in PE 2018?

Are you viewing in the Organizer or Windows Explorer?

Is it on the same computer as your old version of Photoshop Elements?

Windows doesn't have the ability to display PSD thumbnails natively.

I use this utility:

MysticThumbs - Image thumbnails for Windows Explorer.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, on the same computer as the old versions (V 9 and 11).

As a matter of fact, I still have both older versions on the machine and the preview for PSD files still works with them.

I think you misunderstood my question.

I stated in the title Elements 2018, so I could not be in Windows Explorer.

Since I described File - Open that means I am in Editor.

No, you perfectly described what you did:

When I go File -> Open the window has thumbnails for JPEGS and icons for PS files.

The command "File >> Open" in the editor opens a window in the Windows Explorer. You are in the Explorer.

Note that if you are using the organizer you don't have any problems, the thumbnails for psd files are created as before.

"The command "File >> Open" in the editor opens a window in the Windows Explorer. You are in the Explorer."

Then how come that on the same computer I get previews f PSD files with previous versions of PE, even right now?

Does that mean previous versions of PE did not use Explorer to show the thumbnails/icons?

Please forget any Elements version and try to display thumbnails in the Explorer. You can't unless you add an external codec for that function. Then the thumbnails are displayed either in the explorer or in the 'Open' window of the organizer.

They surely did open Explorer windows, but my guess is that they did use some sort of codecs which are not compatible with recent PSE versions (the issue does not appear only in PSE, many discussions in various other forums).

Anyway, it seems that you have to purchase codec packs to get back the PSD thumbnails in recent PSE or Photoshop versions. Note that the Explorer displays tiff files without problems. I don't care because I always use the organizer.
