Installed Photoshop Elements 2019, copied pictures from old hard drive but the editing work I did on previous versions was lost. How do I back up on a remote hard drive to prevent this problems in the future.

How to I backup Photoshop elements so I can restore them into a newer version and include all my past edits. A hard drive replacement has caused a lot of extra work when I cpoied my files from a back up to a new hard drive.
