I JUST PURCHASED A NEW COMPUTER (WITH WINDOWS 7) and I am in the process of moving my
software from the old machine. It also is also running Windows 7. All is going ok except
for my Photoshop Elements 2 installation. I know, that's a pretty old version but it worked
fine for me on the old machine. When I put the installation disc in the drive
the install window comes up ok from auto play but nothing happens when I click on
the "Installation" button or any other buttons.
Adobe support said they no longer support this version and sent me here. C an any one help?
Thanks,
Ken V

You might try copying the pse 2 install files from the cd to your drive then go to the photoshop elements folder and right click on the Install.exe and click on Run as Adminstrator.
Hopefully then the install will proceed.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your response. It almost works. I was able to go into the PS Elements folder on the install disc and right click on the setup file. That started the install process, then I entered my key number and everything looked very normal right up to and including the final "successfully installed screen. But then when clicking on the desktop icon to start the program I get an error message after the program appears to load normally. The message is: "Could not initialize Photoshop Essentials because the scratch disks are full".
Could there be some files somewhere left over from a previous install attempt that have not been deleted by the uninstall process?
Thanks again,
Ken Vaughn

Have a look at this. In the second paragraph they stipulate that it work for Photoshop Elements as well.
Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

Thank hatstead -
Do you think that would also work on my hard drive. My feet are firmly rooted here on the planet. Have not ascended to the cloud as yet.

The problem is most likely your hard drive has more than 1 TB of free space.
Photoshop elements 1 and 2 can't see free space over 1 TB and thus give the message of Scratch Disk Full.
Adobe fixed this issue in pse 3 and later pse versions.
So check your drive and see how much free space your drive has and let us know.

No i wouldn't do that, but you could set that drive as your scratch disk for pse 2.
Just after you start the launch of pse 2 press and hold the Alt+Ctrl keys
Keep holding the keys down until you get the Scratch Disk Preferences dialog
Then you can set your external drive as the First Scratch Disk.

Thanks anyway Jeff,
I am giving up. Guess I will just have to buy a newer version.

Were you able to set your external drive as the Scratch disk?
Though by upgrading to a new version you won't have this problem and i'd say 15 or so years of service out a piece of software is pretty good, so you got your moneys worth out of pse 2.
