Is my installation of Photoshop Elements 15 corrupt

Explorer ,

I have Photoshop Elements 15 installed on a 2015 MacBook Pro. I have been using Elements since about version 11 with just minor bugs but nothing drastic. That is a different story with 15. The issues I have are: When I press "Option" while in Clone, etc. to select an area, for example, or am using the spot healing brush and not even pressing Option, a brush tools option pop up box appears.  I can hit esc for it to go away but then it comes back over and over again. Please note that I can go for an hour without this happening and then it starts up again.

My second issue is saving files. Sometimes I hit "save" and nothing appears to happen so I assume it is saved. Then other times it will bring up the original file and ask if I want to replace it. Sometime I get a "save" and sometimes I don't.

I have my Preferences set for 1000 history states but today it only let me go back about 4 times and then stopped.

When I scroll through the font list there is a terrible lag for the previews of the alphabet to show up.  I didn't have this with 14.

Are these issues normal for 15 and if so I'll go back to 14, which had its issues but not this bad.

OR should I re-install it and how would I do that? The version is from a download from the Adobe site.

Thanks for any help. You can imagine how annoying this is. I use this program in my job.

Hi,

Please reset your photoshop elements preferences and see if it solves your problem. For this:

1. In Photoshop Elements, go to Edit -> Preferences -> General

2. Click on 'Reset preferences on next launch' button. See the screen grab attached below.

3. Click on 'Ok' button.

4. Relaunch the application.

Please let me know if the problem still persists.

Thanks,

Rupali

Hi and thanks so much for your reply. I re-set the preferences.

So far I am not having the pop up of brush choices, so that is great!!

However, the listing of fonts still is "laggy". I will scroll through and it can't keep up. I went down to the "Large" setting and it still does it.

AND now it is doing something really weird. If I have an open image on the screen and I want to change its size but I accidentally click on "canvas size" instead of "image size" .. .it goes "crazy"!!! It starts creating a zillion little images and I can't make it stop until it is finished with whatever it is doing!!! (see screen print). In the past I have accidentally clicked "canvas size" instead of "image size" and nothing like this happened!! This is the 2nd time in a couple days that this has happened!!!

Images > Resize > Canvas Size

By the way, it created 40 of those little images...

Hi Again, it fixed the problem with the brush selection popping up but it started again. I have been use PSE all day and now it is doing it again. I was cloning something .. didn't even have Shift/Command/Options, etc. pressed .... just clicking to clone and the brush selections started popping up again. I don't want to have to reset my preferences every day!! Is there a solution to this problem or just a workaround?  Thanks so much!

Here's a screen print of what I am seeing over and over. I really can't reset my preferences right now because I am in the middle of a lot of images and don't want to start over. Is there a fix for this problem or is it a bug that I have to wait for version 16 or do I need to re-install? Thanks!!!

Hi,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

You must have clicked Divide Scanned Photo in place of Image size/Canvas Size. Please close all the images without saving and try once again.

The above pop up of brush options comes on right click. You must be doing right/secondary click while using brush. Please change the setting of Trackpad of your MacBook Pro for secondary click.

Thanks,

Rupali

You are wonderful!! Thank you so much for your help!!!! I really appreciate your help and I will look at my Mac mouse settings. It’s just weird that I have been using PSE for many years and now the pop-up brush issue has just started! Oh well… now that I know what might cause it I will be especially aware!!

Thanks again!
