Issues installing Photoshop Elements 14 from CD

New Here ,
Jun 11, 2024 Jun 11, 2024

I bought a secondhand copy (CD) of Photoshop Elements 14 on eBay. When I run the installer first of all it says I must restart my computer because of pending updates. I did that the first time, then I ignore it because it comes up every time. Later it give a mesage saying the web browser needs updating. I've tried with Firefox and Edge (both the very latest versions), and even tried Internet Explorer. I never get past this screen - it hangs here and I have to kill the process. Reading other posts in this forum, it seems the Adobe Application Manager on the CD is out of date. I would have to download and install the latest version, create an account and sign in, and even then it may not install as the licence may have pre-expired.

@Neil37986130nx9h Photoshop Elements 14 was released in 2015 and is no longer supported, I'd imagine the original copy would have been registered to the original owner and licence transfer as far as I'm aware is no longer available, also if the product has been activated twice it can't be activated again, so to your question

"Have I been sold a pup?" more than likely

As of writing, Photoshop Elements 2024 is currently available for $69.99

I used to hang my old AOL discs I got in the mail from my christmas tree... you may want to consider doing that.

I think you've learning something here:  Never purchase used software cd's /dvd's online.

I do have a hard copy of pse 2022 on dvd for emergencies---along with windows 8.1,  not sure why I bother- I could easilly toss them in the trash- I've got just about every version showing in my adobe account anyway.

I've tried to get PSE 2 installed and running, just to do it, and I've never been able to make it work.  I also have about 8 different versions of the software installed at any one time- I use them to help users- many ofwhich own older versions.

PSE 14 does have a pretty interface, but PSE 2024 simply leaves it in the dust.

Glenn,

PSE 1 and PSE 2 should work on Windows 11, 10 or just about any version of Windows since Windows 98.

The main thing is the hard drive or partition the OS is installed on needs to be 1 TB or smaller.

If not you'll most likely get the "Scratch Disk full" message and pse 2 won't start.

Adobe fixed the hard drive size issue starting with PSE 3.

It would be interesting to know if one does use the Transfer License form, whether the activations are tied to the User or the serial number.

I have PSE 6 on a CD that came with a scanner I bought about 15 years ago. It's installed with no problem on every PC and Windows version I've had since - currently on Windows 10. I can carry on using it, just thought I could see a chance to get to a newer version cheaply. I guess somewhere between 6 and 14 they changed from a product purchase model to a licence subscription model.

I live in the UK where the exchange rates never favour us so it'll cost more then $70 to get 2024 and then I guess you have to pay something every year to be able to keep using it.

Photoshop Elements is not a subscription. It has a perpetual license, so you can keep using it until you are ready upgrade.

The subscription stuff you mention is propbably about Adobe Creative Cloud. " I guess somewhere between 6 and 14 they changed from a product purchase model to a licence subscription model."

PSE is not part of the Adobe Creative cloud family of products.
