Hello, I have tried everything I know and sometime it works others it doesn't but I am trying to make diagonal patterns in Photoshop Elements using a 40px x 40px size

But almost everytime I end up with this:

Any help would be great!

Following this video seems to work in photoshop elements:

(i used your 40 px x 40 px size)

layers before merging

after defining pattern and using it on a different document

In this tutorial make your own diagonal patterns to use instead of trying to find available ones online.

Thank you for that. I am not getting the same result no matter what I do. Seems pretty straight forward draw a line copy it done.

But this is what I continue to get a little different then before but still not diagonal lines.

I just followed the video to the letter. Screenshot (309).png

I've gotten many variations but not a smooth diagonal line. Here is another creation that I recevied when I made the lines bigger and spaced differently. Screenshot (311).png

I've done this many times before I am baffled at what is happening here.

Okay I see I am not moving the outer two lines out to the corner enough. I moved them out further and got this. Thank you for troubleshooting with me.
