I take raw and jpeg images.  I just upgraded from Elements 2016.  Elements 2016 keep the jpeg amd raw images the same file name , ie   photo1.jpg / photo1.cr2  but Elements 2024 names the same files photo1.jpg / photo2.cr2.  Am I missing a toggle in 2024 that I didn't have in 2016 to keep the files the same name with different extensions?

Thanks.

AFAIK, nothing has changed with respect to naming files between Elements 2016 and 2024.  Are you talking about new files that you are importing from your camera or card reader?  If so, please show us a screenshot of the Adobe Photo Downloader dialog in Advanced Mode:

Important from SD card.  My results:  in 2016 I would have fie names 2023 Christmas _0001.CR2      2023 CHRISTMAS_0001.JPG as they are img_7771.CR2  and img_7771.JPG on the camera card.  Not getting that with elements 2024.

Your file names are exactly what I would expect to see with your settings.  See my screenshot which shows the custom file name you have chosen in the APD dialog.  I don't normally rename my files when importing, but I'm guessing that your setting of Christmas 2023 +1 is sticky and needs to be changed when you import again.

. . .  I had forgotten the exact problem you were having.  I just did a test and found that you need to check the box to Automatically Stack Raw and Jpeg files to get the result you want.  (And I was wrong about the custom name being sticky.)

Thanks but I tried that with the same results.  It "stacks them in the organizer view but still gives them different file names that don't corespond in the folder. Bummer.
