Lens Corrections

New Here ,
Dec 18, 2016 Dec 18, 2016

I have just started a 30 day trial of APE 15. I use a Panasonic FZ1000 bridge camera with a 25mm - 400mm lens so in some cases lens corrections are important to me. Does any this or any elements version allow these or do you have to have AP, LR or the cloud based

suites. I assume that it doesn't which is why I can't find any lens lists in my version? Any help appreciated. Alan

I don't have PSEv.15.

Have a look under the Filter menu in Editor. Does "Correct Camera Distortion" show up?

Thanks for this and yes it does. However, I believe this deals with barrel and pin cushion distortion, not perspective distortion which is ideally what i will need. Another user has replied pointing me to the camera for this and I will need to nvestigate that now. Thanks very much anyway.

I believe the Panasonic FZ1000 uses built in lens corrections.

in other words the lens corrections are done in camera and recent versions of adobe camera raw can read and apply the lens corrections automatically.

Anyway, when i opened a sample image from below in photoshop cc its says that lens correction is already applied and when opening the same image in photoshop elements, it looks as though it reads the lens corrections as well.

That's not to say that some images taken at the wide angle settings of your lens might not need some additional corrections using Filter>Correct Camera Distortion.

Thanks very much. I am not sure if the camera adjustment deals with perspective distortion, only barrel and pincushion, so will have to investigate that. Also, it appears that the toolbar they show is from PS or CC so my concern about PSE not being powful enough is becoming a real concern. Any other ideas you have will be much appreciated.

The lens correction filter not only deals with barrel and pincushion distortion, it also deals with perspective. Even before that useful filter was introduced, I have been able to correct perspective from the other tools in the distortion options of the enhance menu. I can do what I want in this domain, but it's true that the  new tools in Photoshop or Lightroom are easier and more powerful. Several years ago, I also used DxO which was the leading software for perspective correction, but I no longer use it since I can do what I want in Elements. My advice: download the trial version of PSE15, play with it and ask if necessary.

Many thanks for that Michael. I'll try it all out and see what transpires and get back to you if I can't get to where I want.

All the best

Michael,

It is marvelous what you can do with a pointer in the right direction coupled with trying to do it right. Found all what you pointed to and have practiced on a few photos. Many thanks indeed.
