Looking for tips on using Organizer 2018 with big collection

Good day, everyone,

Well, so I bought into Adobe's pitch about 2018 beings _the_ version to get, and upgraded to PSE/PRE combo so that I can finally start organizing and cleaning up my family album. Here is what happened so far:

1. I started with a collection of 87,326 photos and videos (809 GB overall). Organizer repeatedly froze after processing 50k+ files, always in the same spot. Reported to Adobe, sent them the file and the callstack where the app hangs, so far no follow up from them.

2. Next I moved videos out of my collection into a separate tree (thank you PowerShell!), leaving 84,127 photos (326 GB). This time Organizer completed import ok, and then bogged computer for two days detecting faces. It got to 29% completion, at which point I had to reboot my PC for updates. I shut down Organizer and waited for all processes to stop writing (it took almost half hour _after_ Organizer was visibly closed for it to actually finish).

3. After I started Organizer next time, it did not continue processing face detection, and I could not coerce it into doing this. I suspect that full repair of the catalog might do this, but I don't want to waste 2 more days to get to 29% point :-((

So, my questions to you, if you don't mind sharing your experience:

A. How do you manage large collections, especially when face detection takes so incredibly long?

B. How often do you see catalogues corrupted because Organizer takes tens of minutes to stop writing these _after_ it appears to be closed? Any tips on avoiding this?

C. Is Adobe's version of face detection worth the effort?

Thank you! And I hope you are having a better time using this product than I do 🙂

1 - Forget about face detection and try again. (I don't care for automatic face detection because PEOPLE tagging is so important for me).  Those who have tried reported that they needed weeks for all the faces to be analyzed...Otherwise, the organizer has no problem to manage catalogs with 100 or 200 000 items. (I try to keep mine under 70 000). Retrieving files with a combination of various criteria is generally ultra fast.

What may be slow with the organizer? Backups, because they need to copy all your files library; they do not copy only the catalog folder. However that does not take more time than a simple copy. Deleting big quantities of files at the same time has always been very long.

2 - Corrupt catalogs, failed backups etc are often the result of certain video files. The common symptom of such failures (with big or small libraries) is that the failure always occur at the same % of the given process. That's a sign of a corrupt file or an unknown photo or video format.

Well, you asked me to share my experience.
