Missing files

New Here ,
Sep 20, 2017 Sep 20, 2017

I recently purchased a new laptop and installed my original Elements 7.0 on it. However, when I attempt to open any file, elements comes up with "searching for missing file". It takes ages searching for every file (& I  have 000's). If I stop the search, the file is onscreen, pixelated.

I have clicked File/Reconnect/All Missing Files, but does not appeared to have helped/solved the solution.

Did you move the photos manually to the new machine?

The recommended method is backup and restore which makes a clone copy of all media files and the catalog. This can be done using an external hard drive.

Hi. Thanks for your help.

I have copied them to desktop from the external drive. All photos in the Organiser are slightly out of focus, but become 100% clear when the external drive is connected. I have attempted to follow the steps on the link, to no avail. Elements looks for every single "missing file" and as I've said, I have over 2k pictures. It's very frustrating.

Backup and restore should work if you start from the old Organizer.

On the new laptop you could create a new catalog from the Organizer menu.

File >> Manage Catalogs >> New

Choose a new name, and save.

When the empty catlaog launches go to import and choose from files & folders. Then select Pictures or the folder where you store everything.

Choose all sub-folders or use Ctrl+A (Cmd+A) to select all and click get media.

The downside is that you will have to create keywords, albums, stacks etc. again. But at least you will have no missing photos.
