MPG files in Elements 9 catalog

New Here ,
Mar 17, 2017 Mar 17, 2017

Have restored a catalogue of video files to a new laptop running windows 10 (backup was on a windows Vista laptop which did and still does work perfectly ). The MPG files now have no thumbnails, and will only play sound - no video.  When transferred into Premiere Elements video and sound both play perfectly. When I carried out this exercise last week on a windows 10 desktop the Elements program referred me to download a fix when I opened the file in Premiere. Cannot find this fix in the laptop or on your website, which I have to say I have found hard to follow. Why can I not just send you an e-mail?  I am 73, have used your applications since Elements 7 was the latest program, and am unhappy that :-  A   What did work now does not.

B   The program seems to react differently in the two machines (Both HP, both from same supplier.)

C   I can find no answer on your 'forums'

D   Why is sending an e-mail so difficult for me - or am I misreading something and cannot see a label saying

'Send your message here' or words to that effect.

E   I have spent the last few days (having finally bought new computers) trying to decide whether to purchase

Elements/Premiere Elements 15, or Lightroom 6 to run on them. Unless I can remove this problem I will not be                                                                                           buying  either, and will transfer all stills and videos to another catalog application - one that works!

your message is difficult (for me) to understand.

you have some (or many) mpg files that fail to play properly on one of your computers.  is that correct?

if so, how is that related to an adobe program?  were the mpgs created by premiere elements 9?

Thank you for contact. I have about 300 MPEG files loaded from a video camera (copied into a folder on the hard drive ). When using Windows Media Player to play these, I only get sound - no video. I also have Adobe Photoshop Elements 9, with these files in a video catalog with other video types. These files do not show a thumbnail in Elements, and will only play audio. There is no problem with any of the other file types. There is no problem in my old laptop - WMP and Photoshop both play audio and video. The files were transferred into the new laptop from a backup /restore routine provided in Adobe Photoshop Elements, and I have had no problems with any of the still picture catalogs transferred in the same way. The original catalogs were compiled in a Windows Vista laptop, the new laptop is a Windows 10.         The mpgs were created in camera (Sony video), and were imported into Elements 9 (NOT Premiere Elements 9) from the download folder on the Vista laptop, straight into a catalog . They have not been edited or amended in any way in Photoshop - the program is only used as a catalog. I gather from internet searches that other users have had this problem, and my Impression is that Windows 10 or Adobe does not now provide a 'codec' to read the video. Where do I go from here - I would like some assistance or guidance if you can help. Would upgrading to Elements 16 solve the problem? Once again, thank you for your interest.
