New user problems

New Here ,

I have recently downloaded Adobe Photoshop Elements 15 (trial).  When I open a photo in photoshop and click on file menu I want to "place" a logo on the photo.  However "place" will not let me click on it.  What am I doing wrong?

It's important to eliminate the background of the logo so that it is "transparent". It would help if you post it here, but try this and let us know how you make out:

  1. Save your logo to disk and open it in PSE Editor (expert tab)
  2. Double click the background layer to convert it from a locked layer to a regular layer
  3. Set up the magic wand tool with tolerance=32, contiguous unchecked
  4. Click on  background and hit delete on keyboard. ***see below
  5. Save logo via File>save for web>PNG 24, transparency checked, in folder on desktop
  6. Close PSE
  7. Start from scratch with a picture
  8. Open your logo from step 5, and drag it onto the picture (or copy/paste). It will come in as a separate layer in the layers palette.
  9. Position and resize to suit with move tool.

If the background is a solid color, then the magic wand tool should work. However, if it is a complex background, then you will need to use one of the selection tools to select the foreground (i.e. logo).

Again, the point is to remove the background and save the logo in a file format which supports transparency.

Hi ramonam,

I understand you are trying to create an image with transparent background.

Could you please follow the following steps:

- Open the picture file in your canvas.

- Use the "Magnetic Lasso Tool" or "Quick Selection Tool" to select the the foreground

- Place the selection on its own layer (Layer > New > Layer via copy or CTRL+J ) - this will be Layer 1

- Delete the background layer

- Click File > Save for web. File format PNG-24, checked constrain proportion & transparency boxes

Saved file in a folder on desktop.

or

- Click File > Save As > Give name to your file >> You will get PNG Option applet like this

Png_Interlaced.JPG

Choose "Interlaced" &  click Ok.

Hope this works

Thanks

Regards

Dhananjay
