Notsituation: Elements 2025 Katalog Manager findet keine Kataloge

Yes, it is clear what is happening.  Each catalog can only be read by the version of Elements that created it.  Your catalog folders containing the catalog.pse20db files were created in Elements 2022.  You need to convert them to Elements 2025, using the Convert button in the Catalog manager:

It's not entirely clear to me what you have done.

How many catalogs do you have?  (And why do you have more than one catalog?)

How did you migrate all your media and catalogs?  Did you simply copy them from one computer to another or did you use the Organizer's Backup and Restore process?  See this article for the preferred method for moving catalogs from one computer to another.

Are your catalogs now stored in the default location or in a custom location.

If you are using the Catalog Manager to convert all of your old catalogs, make sure that the following box is checked:

Hi,

thanks for your reply! Meanwhile I had some other more pressing issues with the migration, thus I haven't reacted earlier.

What I have done is the following: I have made a fresh installation of PE2025 on my new WIN11 computer. Then I have copied the entire catalogue folder C:\program data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs from my old computer to exactly the same location on my new one.  That folder holds 6 different catalogues. When I access the catalogue management window I would expect to see them all listed there in the default lacation (for all users accessible catalogues). However, only one catalogue is displayed. On further investigation of the main catalogue databases I have found that the catalogue which is displayed has a file name catalog.pse25db, while all the others have catalog.pse20db! That seems to indicate, that the problem has something to do with the PE software version.

Does that ring any bell?

Hi Greg,

that solved my problem! All catalogues are converted now and are ok. Apparently the catalog manager of 2025 behaves a little different from the one in the previous editions: I was expecting to see all available catalogues in the main window. Upon selecting one the manager would tell that it has to be converted. I never started with pressing the convert button.

Anyway, its done now. Many thanks for your advice!

Some other options for you to consider:

  • If you only have Elements 2025 installed on the new computer, you can double-click on each catalog.pse20db file in Windows File Explorer.  The catalog will be automatically converted and opened in Elements 2025.  (A copy of the old catalog will be created and renamed with a numeric suffix.  That renamed catalog can still be opened in Elements 2022.)
  • If you also have Elements 2022 installed on the new computer, you can right-click on the catalog.pse20db file and use the context menu to Open With>Elements Organizer 2025.
