The number of pictures I have adjusted in Camera Raw is about 500; Opening them in Photoshop Elements and save them all individually in JPEG format is rather cumbersome. Is there a way (or work around) to save the adjusted files in batch as JPEG file? Or do you know of a workaround?

Two ways:

- from the editor: use the menu Help >> Process multiple files

- from the organizer: select the files and use File >> Export as new files.

The option to 'save' in the camera raw dialog is only to create a copy in the DNG raw format.

To save in whatever format like jpeg, psd, tiff or png, you have to use the 'Open' button. That opens the image in the editor;  from there you can save, print, edit etc.

Thanks for your response.

By the way, when using Camera Raw in Photoshop (I no longer have this programm) I could save the adjusted pictures in all formats I wanted. The functionality of Camera Raw seems to be more limited.

Both batch solutions are flexible, but if you 'Open' in the editor and 'save as', you can create a version set with the original raw.

By the way, when using Camera Raw in Photoshop (I no longer have this programm) I could save the adjusted pictures in all formats I wanted. The functionality of Camera Raw seems to be more limited.

Dear Michel,

Thanks a lot; this works fine and easy for the CR2 images I adjusted in Camera Raw.

For JPG images I saved as dng image from ACR, it does not work. For such images I get the notification that the files are neglected because they are not supported. Is there a workaround for such images (dng files based on jpg files adjusted in ACR)?

Thanks in advance

Aart

Aart,

I have always considered that naming the conversion button to the DNG format as 'Save' was a huge error.

You are not alone to have wrongly understood that its purpose was to convert into a image format like jpeg, psd or tiff. In Photoshop, that 'Save' button is less misleading since the full ACR offers ways to convert to image formats directly.

As a matter of fact, Elements users never use the 'Save' button otherwise than for real raw files from cameras. For jpegs, using the ACR module means you simply click either 'Done' or 'Open'. In both cases, the settings you have applied in ACR are written as metadata in the header of the jpeg file. Nothing is changed to the pixels values. Next time you open those ACR-edited jpegs in the editor or the organizer they open in the ACR dialog. If you open them with another editor, the settings will be ignored and the images will be opened as regular jpegs without the edits.

I just checked that the .DNG 'saves' you have produced from jpegs can't be opened in Elements nor in Photoshop CC. However they can be opened and edited by free third party editors like Faststone, Irfanview or even Microsoft Photos. That is something I did not know before your question.

So, if you regularly edit jpegs in the ACR module (like me) simply use the 'Done' or 'Open' buttons.

I hope you have kept the original jpegs for the problem DNGs. Otherwise I am afraid you'll have to use a third party editor to save them in an image format.

Edit:

I have posted a feature request in the feedback forum.

If those dngs were saved using camera raw 10.2, then that was a bug that was fixed in camera 10.3.

Camera Raw cannot open its own DNG file

Thanks very much for that info, Jeff.

It's a pity PSE2018 is not yet updated to 10.3 or 10.4.

As a matter of fact, DNG from jpeg saved with 9.5 (PSE4) or 10.4 (Photoshop  CC) do open normally in ACR.

The problem may remain for the OP if he has only kept the DNGs.
