I have 1200 pictures in one "catalogue" and it is crucial for me that they appear in order after the filenames - but they don't! It seems that pictures I have been editing moves up in front, and the others appear in clusters (inside which they do appear in alphabetical order). I would assume that this was a matter of just clicking a button somewhere, but I cannot find any?!
Elements 10 is already a very old version.
To be able to display by alphanumerical order, you had to be in the 'Folders' display mode - menu Display (top right) or shortcut Ctrl + Alt + 3
The default sort order in 'Thumbnail' view is chronological by date_taken

Thank you! - the CTRL-ALT-3 works, but divides the catalogue into the old folders, meaning that I can only search for tags in one folder at a time. It is far better than the cronological view, but gives me an uncertain feeling of less control!
Of course I can move all pictures to one folder ... (if that can be done now without loosing data - I have lost all metadata once due to lack of proper backup, when I had to change the computer 😞
Yes, Elements 10 is old - would you recommend an update? I saw a video about the 18 version, but it only showed things like automatical searching/tagging of content (faces, sunsets, pets), and that has no relevance for my project, where I have to write captions and tag faces manually to be able to search them very specifically.
