I have Photoshop Elements 2024 which I have not used for a couple of months. Now whenever I try and open Organizer it opens momentarily and then crashes. I have tried reinstalling the software but the same thing keeps happening.
Any suggestions as how to resolve this would be welcome.
Thanks

What OS are you using?
Press the Shift key while launching the Organizer and it should take you to the Catalog Manager. Create a new catalog and open it to see whether the Organizer will launch. If it does, go back to the Catalog Manager by selecting Manage Catalogs from the File menu. Select your problem catalog and see if it will now open. If it doesn't, go through the Shift+launch Organizer process and use the Repair and Optimize buttons on your problem catalog. Proceed with the operation even if you are told that no errors were found.

Hi Greg_S.
Thanks for your messsage.
I am using Windows 11.
I have tried the procedures you have suggested and although I can create a new catalog and then rebuild it, repair it and optimise it, exactly the same thing happens and it keeps crashing. For good measure I have tried this process twice with the same end result.
Do you have any further suggestions?
Thanks

Are you getting any error messages?
When you created a new catalog, were you able to open the Organizer without it crashing?
What do you mean when you say you rebuilt the catalog?
How many media files were in your catalog when it crashed?
Do you have any very long paths to any of your files?
What kind of files are in your catalog (jpeg/raw/video/other)?
What cameras are the source of the files? Are any of your files from a phone camera?
What were you doing in the Organizer when it first crashed?

And a big question, I forgot:
Are you using the Elements web to sync your photos?

I have set out my responses to your questions below:
Are you getting any error messages? To start with there was a dialog that said the program had encountered a problem and would have to close and did I want to send an error message to Adobe. Thereafter, there was no dialog box and the program just closed itself
When you created a new catalog, were you able to open the Organizer without it crashing? Yes I was, I then let it search for all the pictures. Once it had cataloged all the pictures it closed itself and if I tried to reopen it, it would close again.
What do you mean when you say you rebuilt the catalog? Let it search for the files on the computer
How many media files were in your catalog when it crashed? About 25,000
Do you have any very long paths to any of your files? Not as far as I know
What kind of files are in your catalog (jpeg/raw/video/other)? Mainly jpeg still pictures but there may be a few short videos taken on a phone camera.
What cameras are the source of the files? Are any of your files from a phone camera? About half of the files, the older ones, are from various digital cameras, whereas all the more recent ones are Samsung phone pictures.
What were you doing in the Organizer when it first crashed? I just opened it and then it closed itself. Prior to that it had worked perfectly.
Are you using the Elements web to sync your photos? No, but some of the pictures that are being cataloged are on One Drive

I am guessing that there are some files that are not compatible with Elements 2024.
Which model of Samsung phone?
Are any of the Samsung phone photos taken at 200MP resolution?
Have you downloaded the Camera Raw plug-in from the Help menu? If not, that may be the issue.

The model of Samsung Phone was an S24 and I certainly haven't taken any photos at 200MP resolution. Yes I have downloaded the RAW plug in.
Eventually I resolved the problem by re-installing the Elements 2024 program and excluding from the catalog the online One-Drive photos. It seems that Elements 2024 cannot really cope with having OneDrive photos on the cloud, they need to be on the computer itself.
Thanks for your assistance.
