Organiser Face Tags

Organiser allows face tagging with location on the photo, then saving metadata to file. However on moving the .jpeg file to another folder or sending it to a friend, the face tag name shows up only as a general tag, not attached to any face location on the photo.

I undertand a little about metadata with international standards on EXIF & XMP metadata. Why is Elements Organiser not saving the face name & it's location in XMP  metadata ?

I am scanning in old photos and wish to add date, GPS location and Face Names that will be available for 'posterity'. Is there any PC (not cloud) based software available that easily allows this to be done (eg using maps to add GPS co-ordinates - Adobe Bridge needs the GPS co-ordinates typed in).  I previously used Picasa but it is now cloud based and in any case other software could not read its Face Names.

A lot of people, including me, are working to save memories for posterity.

I don't care for Face Recognition, but I have always tagged persons (not faces) in my own keyword hierarchy, which will be available for any other software for posterity. That tagging takes time. Face recognition might help to add conventional keywords if you are starting the job for an already big library. But for posterity, I don't see the point. Like everybody I have a lot of group shots of weddings for instance. Nothing can replace a normal note describing the 50 persons in 5 rows...

So I fear that your are dreaming.

Why is Elements Organiser not saving the face name & it's location in XMP  metadata ?

Because the info is not saved in xmp sidecar files for jpegs, it's stored in the metadata header of the files themselves.

I did not know.

One big issue is how different softwares can handle face recognition now with the same standards, the other is what will be necessary for posterity.

Thanks Michael for your quick answer: can I ask a couple of further questions ?

*) ...your are dreaming

I understand from this that there is no agreed standard for storing Face Tags – I thought the Adobe XMP metatdata specifically allowed for Face Names & their location on the photo. Has the ‘IPTC’ not standardised on this ?

*) ... the info is not saved in xmp sidecar files for jpegs

Is it just that Elements Organiser (for some reason only knows to Adobe) that does not store the Face Names & location in the XMP sidecar ?

*) Do you know of any software which does store Face Names & their location in the XMP standard and also allows easy GPS location and dating ?
