Organizer: Katalog sichern ohne Fotos

Hallo liebe Community, 

da ich eine NAS betreibe brauche ich weder bei einem PC-Wechsel noch bei der Datensicherung den Katalog inkl. der Bilder zu sichern. Ich möchte also lediglich die Datenbank ohne die Bilder in mein Backup packen, da ich sowieso nicht vorhabe, die Bilder über Adobe wiederherzustellen.

Fragen:

1. Wenn ich unter Windows 10, C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs meinen Katalog in die Datensicherung kopiere und sich an den Speicherorten der Bilder nichts ändert: Kann ich dann diesen Ordner wiederherstellen und mein Katalog funktionert wieder?
2. Angenommen ich würde den Hauptspeicherort der Bilder ändern, z.B. F:\Fotoalbum => G:\Fotoalbum privat (aber die komplette Struktur darunter bleibt gleich), könnte ich dies dann irgendwo anpassen?

Storing your files on a network also requires backup solutions for your safety.

Nothing is easier than copying the catalog folder elsewhere. Moving or copying the catalog folder from the Explorer does not change anything in its contents. Also, since version PSE2021, you have the option to save only the 'catalog structure'.

This protects you against loss or corruption of the catalog and its database if and only if there is nothing changed in the media files themselves, especially the physical drive identification. It's not enough to have the same folder tree structure on a new drive, it's not enough to have the same drive letter. The organizer searches the internal serial number of the drive. If it's different, all files are disconnected. So, even if you have restored the files from an external backup with the same folder structure and the same drive letter, you are out of luck.

Ich habe PSE2019 im Einsatz, daher kann ich programmseitig nicht nur die Struktur sichern.

Kurze Rückfrage: Bezieht sich die Aussage, "This protects you against loss or corruption of the catalog and its database if and only if there is nothing changed in the media files themselves, especially the physical drive identification. "  auf mein gewünschtes Vorgehen den Katalog zu speichern oder auf die neue Funktion in PSE2021? - so dass auch diese neue Funktion mir nicht helfen würde?

Bedeutet dies, dass ich keine andere Möglichkeit habe meinen Katalog zu sichern als über das Adobe-Tool mit Sicherung von sämtlichen Elementen, so dass wiederum sämtliche Dateien auf einem anderen Laufwerk mit überschrieben werden müssen?

The new feature in PSE2021 letting your save only the database structure creates a copy of your catalog folder except for the thumbnail cache which can always be recreated from scratch.

If you choose that option, when you exit the organizer you are prompted to save or ignore. If you decide to save, the catalog is checked for errors and a copy of the folder is saved in the following path: ProgramData >> Adobe >> Elements organizer >> catalogs >> _autobackup_.

That's a very nice option, especially as you are always reminded to backup and you can skip if you don't need it. It's fast and obviously recommended after an editing session.

In older versions, you always could find your catalog folder from the menu Help >> system information. As mentioned in my previous post, you could copy the folder anywhere else as a backup.

So you are right that ONLY the backup and restore feature of the organizer is able to move your media and the catalog while keeping the links in the catalog updated. With external tools, you have to reconnect (mainly manually, folder by folder) the missing files. If you compare with Lightroom, the only difference is that Lightroom has the feature to reconnect in batch all the missing files if they are on a different drive, provided the folder tree is the same.

Even if using external backup solutions gives you a fair degree of safety, that does not cover the loss of the physical original drive. I would recommend using the backup and restore process periodically, especially on a NAS which may create other kinds of issues with the organizer.

ok, vielen Dank. Ist zwar nicht das, was ich gehofft habe, aber so sichere ich nicht sinnlos manuell die Ordner und muss es irgendwie anders organisieren.
