Organizer Search locks up

Hi everyone,

I used to use Adobe Photoshop Elements a long time ago and I am trying to come back to it after running into issues with Picasa end of life, My Life / Shutterfly losing facial detection, and Google Photos not allowing me to manually tag faces. I just installed APE 2018 and used the Organizer to index one of my Dropbox folders that has 600+ photos. I was able to use the People and Places features successfully without issue. However, I am running into issues when I use the Search interface. Here is what is happening:

  • Click on Search and wait 3-5 seconds for the new interface to appear
  • The images in the grid are grayed out and the blue icons for the various filters are displayed on the left side
  • When I mouse-over an icon, the proper overlay pops up to allow me to choose the various options for each filter (e.g. mouse-over the People icon and the overlay pops up with faces of all the people in my collection to choose from). So far so good.
  • When I click on an option (doesn't matter whether it is People, Places, Smart Tags, etc.), the grid is filtered to the images that match the filter. So far so good.
  • I can then update the search criteria in the bar at the top and remove criteria or select from other blue icons to add additional search criteria and the results will be filtered successfully (including changing OR to AND, etc.). So far so good.
  • The issue comes in to play when I am finished with the filtered search view. The interface allows me to click on the Back arrow by the word "Grid" in the top left corner. Once I click Back, the blue icons disappear and now I am back in what looks like the main grid interface.
    • The File|Edit|Find|etc toolbar is displayed at the top left and those dropdowns work.
    • The eLive, Media, People, Places, Events options are listed at the top middle but do not respond to clicks.
    • The Import | Create | Share links/dropdowns work.
    • The Back and Sort By interfaces do not work.
    • The grid is still filtered to the pictures chosen in the Search interface
    • I am unable to double-click on a picture to open it to full size
    • I can right-click on a picture and get the menu there.

The only way that I have found to get the application to start working again is to close APE and start over. But this essentially means that I can't use the Search interface which is annoying.

Is anyone else running into this issue? What can I try to do to mitigate it?

Thanks,

Matt

I found a solution via this thread: PSE Organizer won't return to Media after Search | Adobe Community

My laptop has both the Intel HD Integrated Graphics and an NVIDIA graphics card. Apparently there is a conflict with the Organizer and the NVIDIA card. I used the NVIDIA Control Panel to add a specific setting to use the Integrated Graphics with Organizer and now I am able to bounce back and forth between Search and the main grid as expected.

Hope this helps someone else.
