Original Resolution

This is probably a very newbie queestion, but - when I open a picture in Photoshop Elements, where can I see its original resolution?  Thanks!

To address your specific inquiry, when you open a picture file in PSE editor (expert tab), go to Image menu>Resize>Image size and you can read the resolution in px/in. This dialog also permits one to change the resolution with resampling.

The zoom tool does not alter the underlying resolution. Its behavior is analagous to a magnifying glass.

The "Zoom" tool (looks like a magnifying glass) lets you control magnification of images as viewed on your screen.  The quickest way to see an image at 100% (1:1 ratio) is to double click the zoom tool.

Right click your file in Windows Explorer, then Properties >> Details tab

In the Organizer, you can see a selected image's resolution in the Information panel on the right:
