Panorama merging of photos

Explorer ,
Sep 03, 2017 Sep 03, 2017

I use Elements 9 and want to merge a series of panorama photos. I have read the suggestions how to plan the overlapping images but still the process ends with a software crash. I select the images in the organiser and then go to File-New-PanoramaMerge. The program loads the images into the editor and then the program crashes (Photoshop Elements 9 has stopped working). Sometimes loading into the editor results in a black and white checkered image. I am at a loss as to what the problem is and where I am going wrong. On page 307of the manual their is a table of controls for manually adjusting the images to achieve a merge, however, I cannot figure out when these become active in the editor. I have tried working from the editor directly and loading the images manually. The images are reproduced in the work area but as seperate entities and it is not possible to merge them manually.  Since a section of the Elements 9 manual is devoted to this the function does exist in this older version it´s just a question of figuring out how to use it. Any help in this matter would be gratefully received. John McWilliam (jsmcwilliam@gmail.com)IMG_1817.JPGIMG_1816.JPG

I find Pano stitching works best if you shoot with the camera in portrait (vertical) aspect. That would mean taking five or six shots from left to right with about 30% overlap.

I used File >> Place in Expert mode to put each photo on separate layers, extended the canvas to double the original width and the used to move tool to position each photo manually. It was necessary to lower opacity in order to get a good join at the overlap, before putting it back to 100%. I finally cropped.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me. I wonder if we are using the same version of Elements (9.0). I do not have Expert mode under File. Is the idea to create a layer for each part of the panorama? I’m new to layers. How do I manipulate them? Where do I go to change the size of the canvas? Sorry, many questions – maybe there is a tutorial for my version of Elements on how to create a panorama.

John

LATEST

Hi John, I am using the latest version. Sorry I don’t have PSE9 which is getting a bit old now. In PSE15 Pano has moved to the Guided Edit tab. You could download the trial version from the link below and test it free for 30 days. Adobe usually releases a new version each fall (late September/early October) so that could be a good time to consider buying an upgrade.
