When I create a custom pattern what happens to it? I cannot find it in the patterns list. Do I have to move it somewhere? Thanks.

What version of Photoshop Elements and operating system are you using?

Your using Edit>Define Pattern?

After you Define Pattern and go to Layer>NewFill Layer>Pattern you should see your newly defined pattern at the bottom of the list.

I'm using PSE 21 and I'm doing all that but nothing new is appearing at the end of the pattern list or anywhere in the patterns list at all.

Lots of patterns to choose from.   When you make a pattern it typically gets added to the last spot available in what pattern set you have selected at the time.

This image below is from pse 2026- but it gives you an idea of what it should look like.

DO THIS:   Search your entire computer for all patterns.    type in *.PAT  in the search box.
Copy and paste alll the pat files into a folder you can find.

I would try a reset of the Photoshop Elements preferences by going to Edit>Preferences>General, clicking on

Reset Preferences on next launch, then restarting Photoshop Elements.
