Ive recently updated but cant locate photo merge can someone tell me where i can locate it please?

You don't say from which version to which one you did upgrade... I suppose you are now on the current Elements 15.
You can still start the Photomerge from the organizer: menu Edit >> Photomerge.
For the editor, choose the 'Guided edit' mode.
Choose Photomerge on the right side of the top bar.
