Photos lost

New Here ,
Mar 15, 2018 Mar 15, 2018

I opened Elements Organizer to look through my photos and they are all gone.  I loaded over 1000 photos and organized them into photos/albums over 6 months ago and now there is nothing there.  Please tell me I have not lost all that work/pictures!  How do I retrieve my photos?

Hi,

So that we can help you try and find your photos, please answer the following: -

Which operating system are you running on?

Which version og Photoshop Elements are you using?

Have you had to do any system restores recently?

Thank you!

Windows 10, PSE 14, no restores that I am aware of.  I was trying to locate pics in my organizer and there is absolutely nothing there.  When I was looking in my pics folder on my PC, I noticed there was a file title Adobe Photo Files. I think this is most of my pictures I had loaded last summer, but they are not labeled and organized as I had them on Organizer.

Hi,

First of all, PSE does not keep a private copy of your photos, it just saves links to them in the catalog. That is the reason you shouldn't change/rename/delete  photos outside of PSE. The only time PSE copies photos is when you get them from a camera or card reader.

Now, when you load organizer is the Media area completely blank with a message about no media to be displayed?

If so, check the following: -

1.     Is there a "All Media" button top left of media area - click on it if there is

2.     Go to the View menu, select Media Types and ensure Photos is checked

3.     Go to the View menu and ensure that Timeline is not checked

If, when you load organizer, the grid shows up but shows an icon in place of photos then please try to describe the icon

It is very unusual for a catalog to suddenly lose all the photos - it could be that you have picked up the wrong catalog.

Go to the File menu and select Manage catalogs

In the lower panel, does it list any other catalog apart from the one marked (current). If it does,m select it and click on Open

Please let us know how you get on

Brian
