Photoshop Elements 10 missing menu text.

May 30, 2017 May 30, 2017

Some fellow had this same problem with his PE12 recently and he states a recent update KB4020102 fixed his issue.

Well, I have the same issue as he and I just downloaded KB4020102, restarted computer, and the problem is still there.

Now what?

This is his thread that had sent me to Microsoft saying it's their problem, not Adobe's problem. It has since been marked "Answered":

https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2319362

Next is the thread I then opened at Microsoft that now tries to send me back here to Adobe:

Photoshop Elements 10 pulldown menus are now blank after Win10 Updates - Microsoft Community

You can see in that thread a screen capture of my PE10 to show the problem.

I don't know what to do.

You can download from here, but you need the serial number.

Download Photoshop Elements | 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10

The program obviously is of no use to you at this time. I would uninstall the program and reinstall.

If possible, try to deactivate the program under the Help menu in Editor, if you can get to it, prior to the uninstall.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for the idea. Need your definite knowledge on something, please:

When I bought my HP desktop PC in 2012, according to my packing slip, it came pre-installed with

Adobe (R) Premiere Elements & Photoshop 10

So, that is how I came to have this PE10 program.

So, I have no CD or DVD of that software that I would have had, say, had I purchased PE10 in a box at the store.

Therefore, once I uninstall my PE10 per your advice, am I basically out of luck to reinstall it? Does it vanish from my computer once uninstalled, without a CD or DVD in hand to reinstall it?

Thank you.

Success!

The link that you provided pointed me to my MyAdobe account for my 24-digit System Key which thankfully was listed there because I had registered it way back when.

I then uninstalled and reinstalled PE10, using that same link and my System Key. (I forgot to first try to deactivate the program under the Help menu in Editor, as you had suggested I do.)  After installation, I was prompted to restart the computer.

I am happy to say that my PE10 once again has the menu text.  I tested it by doing something minimal such as retrieving then cropping an existing image, then saving the cropped image. Looks good!

In Summary, once again the familiar idea of uninstalling/reinstalling the software inexplicably fixed the problem! I'm amused and slightly embarrassed that I did not think of that idea on my own, as often as one sees it advised on various forums, but I am one who is easily distracted by corollary details. I'll perhaps never know if having the recent Microsoft update KB4020102 was a part of the solution.

Thank you, hatstead, for your patient help.

It's Baa-ack.

Me again. I had not used PE10 since the uninstall/reinstall last fixed the problem on May 31 and now, today, June 3, I opened it up and once again the pull down menus were blank. Windows Update showed no new updates of any kind were downloaded in the interim so I can't suspicion that. I uninstalled PE10, reinstalled it, still had blank menus. While I had in view the main window of PE10 with its various smaller frames on each side of the main frame, something then occurred in PE10 where it started freaking out by showing in its various side frames portions of other parts of itself (hard to explain) and these partial images would sometimes flash or blink or jiggle.

The Adobe site does not say that PE10 is supported by my Windows 10. The cards are stacked against me.

Ok, enough of this. I uninstalled PE10 for the last time and visited Adobe to see what they offer nowadays. They have a Photoshop CC but no way can I afford a monthly subscription at ANY price, especially in view of my low usage of this product. Lucky enough, they still offer Photoshop 15 for a fixed price and, as it happens, it's on sale 33% off, thru tomorrow Jun 4.

Coincidence? LOL.

As of tonight, I'm now a user of Photoshop Elements 15 (and Premier Elements 15) and, so far, its pulldown menus have text!

THE END (hopefully).

I have the same problem - with different versions on different PCs.: I use PSE 9, 10, 11.

The error has nothing to do with screen solution or bad graphic card driver etc ...

The error occured with the WIN 10 CREATORS UPDATE from Microsoft - no daubt about it!

I found NO SOLUTION anywhere on the web. At the moment I'm working with a Test version of PSE15.

This program works ... But I want to keep the older versions which worked with Windwos 10 three weeks ago.

REMARK: after the very latest update from WIN10 dated June 16 it suddenly worked again with all versions.

But since i shutdown the computers it all was all worse again.

How to handle it:

1. NEVER EVER install the creators update from WIN10

2. If you have installed it, never turn off the comuter again.

3. Buy some PSE 15 versions which work with creators update.

4. Install a legal WIN7-VM virtual machine on your computers and install the PSE there.

Best way: Adobe should analyze the problem and offer a solution for all users.

In my opinion it may be a problem with a font used by Adobe.

Thanks for any creative idea

Georg

J'ai PSE 10 et plus de menu depuis la mise à jour W10 d'avril 2017 (mise à jour 4015583).

Solution trouvée :

I have the exact same problem with PE 10 and Windows 10 latest large update. I have an on line service and they could not fix it. Even uninstalled PE10 and down loaded PE 10 from Adobe. My computer is now in Shop to see if they can fix it. At one time on the computer screen it showed PE 10 in Windows 7 while PP was in Windows 10. My Brother took his computer in and they said on his computer both windows 7 and windows 10 were on his computer. They had to make a clean Windows 10 install so he had to reload every thing. He is not using PE 10 so don't know if a clean install of Windows 10 will fix the problem but it did fix the problems he was having.

Bonjour,

La communication entre Adobe et Microsoft semble enfin avancer !

Il y a bien un bug dans les mises à jour de W10.

Hi all!

I had the same problem with Photoshop Elements 10: No texts in the menus.

Tried the re-install with download files mentioned in the links. Didn't solve anything.

What worked for me is this:

  1. In Windows 10, go to display settings,
  2. Set scaling to 100% (under the headings "Scale and layout", "Change the size of text, apps and other items"),
  3. Log out of your windows account and log back in again.

For step 2, you may need to click "deactivate custom scaling and sign off".

(this was hinted at in one of the links, I forgot which one.)

Cheers!
