I'm running Elements v. 14 on a Dell XPS 8300 with Windows 10. I just uploaded about 10 video clips and suddenly Elements won't open. When I try to open it I get a message that says "New files have been downloaded... since last launch of Elements Organizer. Elements Organizer will now import these files into catalog. When finished do you want to only the new files in Media Browser?" When I click on "Yes" or "No" I get the Microsoft message stating "Elements 14 Organizer has stopped working...." I use Elements 14 multiple times a week and have imported photos and videos many times on this computer with Windows 10. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry for the inconvenience.
Please try out following steps and let us know if issue persists:
1. While launching Organizer, keep Shift key pressed
2. Catalog Manager dialog will pop up
3. Click on New to create a new catalog
4. Once catalog is created, go to Edit > Preferences > Files
5. Uncheck the option to automatically generate thumbnails of video files.
6. Once done so, switch back to your older catalog from File > Manage Catalogs

Thank you for the quick reply. I did as you suggested. When I create the new catalog, I get a box asking me to import files. When I click on "Skip" the same message appears. "Files Ready for Import... New files have been downloaded...." When I click on "Yes", I get the Window's error message "Elements 14 Organizer has stopped working...." Should I just uninstall and then reinstall Elements?

yes, please go ahead with a clean re-install of PSE14.

I uninstalled and reinstalled. Same error message when I start Elements. I also restored my catalog to an earlier version and that didn't help either. Any more suggestions?

I found those two files in C:\Users\Me\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Elements Organizer\14.0\Organizer and changed the names as you suggested. It didn't work. I still get the same error message when I start Elements 14.
I don't know if this is important or not, but I also have Elements 11 installed on this machine along with Premier Elements 11 and 14. When I installed Elements and Premier 14 I just never got around to deinstalling version 11.

I forgot to include the screenshot of the error message. Here it is.

From the screenshot it looks like the crash is happening while importing some video files.
Can you go to the location where these files are present and try removing video files from there. Now launch Organizer and see if the crash is happening again while importing media.
Thanks,

That was one of the first things I did when this problem occurred. I moved those video files to another location. The problem still occurs.

Can someone please help me with this? I have tried everything that has been suggested and PSE 14 still crashes. I moved the video files that seem to be causing the problem. I copied my catalog to another computer with PSE 14 installed and it runs fine. So I know the problem is not in the catalog. I uninstalled and reinstalled PSE 14 so I assume the problem is not there. I renamed psa.prf and status.dat and that did not fix the problem. Please help!
