When I try to open PSE ver.2.0, it begins to boot up, but soon stops responding at the point where it says it is building the TWAIN menu items, and will just continue with a 'spinning wheel,' forever in a non-responsive state. At that point, I can't even close the program by clicking on the 'X' in the upper right-hand corner of the window.
If I then use CTR/ALT/DELETE, then go to Task Manager and stop PSE, it will close.
Then, if I go back to Elements and try to open it again, it will give me the message that it appears as though the last launch failed while trying to communicate with my device, and recommends updating the TWAIN driver for my device. It also asks if I want to try again, and if I say "Yes," it actually loads just fine and works; however going through all of that each time I want to use PSE is a real pain and time consuming. I would update my TWAIN driver if I knew what they were talking about. Which device needs an updated driver? my computer? my scanner? I don't know how to do this. Can someone give me some step-by-step help? I am not all that tech-savvy, so just saying something like, "Just update your driver" would be of no help at all.

Do you do any scanning directly into pse 2?
You can disable the Twain plugin and see if pse 2 starts without error.
Go to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2\Plug-Ins\Import-Export
and put a tilde symbol ~ in front of the
(the tilde keeps the twain plugin from loading)
Twain_32.8BA
so it looks like below

Hi Jeff.
Thanks for that response; I appreciate it.
Your directions were great, and I was able to navigate to the TWAIN driver; however, I couldn't figure out how to place the tilde in front of it. There was a checkbox, as well as the driver displayed, but I can't see how to insert the tilde. If I clicked directly on the driver icon it immediately opened PSE, and if I clicked in the checkbox, a few of the gray-out items in the menu above it become active; one of them offers the option of deleting the driver; should I opt for that and delete the driver?
Thanks again!

Right click on the Twain_32.8BA then click on Rename, place your cursor at the beginning of the Twain_32.8BA name and click, then type with the Tilde key and press enter.
Then the name should be ~Twain_32.8BA, which should disable the twain plugin when starting pse 2.
