PE 2018 Organizer will not play videos. The following will happen randomly;
1. You get a thumbnail, hit play nothing. Hit stop and you can close the screen but video never plays.
2. No thumbnail with same result as 1.
3. You get the "preparing video" thermometer that just cycles forever; force quit required.
4. Playing freezes PE; force quit required.
All kinds of non-repeatable variations. Videos never play. No error messages.
Windows 10, Intel Integrated along with a Nvidia GTM 660.
I have tried shutting down the graphic cards; that only ends up in black screen when trying to play (GTM 660). Tried using Nvidia control panel to set graphics cards; nothing.
Any experiences would be helpful.
Thanks, Nick

I have the same problem playing videos under PSE2018.
I can play the same video from PSE12 on the same computer.
Win 10 with Intel HD Graphics 520.
Has anyone looked into ths problem? Nick's post is one month old.

What's common in both posts is that the video format is not stated.
That would probably help other users to understand better your issue.

I experience this behavior with AVI, MOV, and MP4 videos.
When the PSE2018 doesn't respond anymore I see 0% CPU usage in the task manager. So it's not busy but seems to be blocked.
And as previously stated, no problem with the same videos running PSE12 on the same Win10 computer (same login session).

Any ideas why this problem exists?
No answer on my post below for 2 weeks now

No, I very rarely do videos myself. I am only a PSE user like you, and I hoped that your question would be answered by expert video users or Adobe staff member.
Usually, the problems don't appear with all video formats. That may mean an issue with the graphic card. Did you try to disable the preference option to use the video adapter for playing videos? Is your video adapter updated directly from the manufacturer site?

Michel,
thanks for your very quick reply.
I have no problem with the same videos running PSE12 on the same Win10 computer (same login session). So I can't imaging a hardware/driver problem can be the cause. Unless there is something totally different in PSE 2018 with video playback as compared to PSE12.

As I understand it, PSE12 relied on Quicktime routines in older Elements versions. There has been a security risk for Windows, so PSE2018 and 2019 used other routines. I am not really surprised that PSE12 and 2018 behave differently.
I think you'll get other answers soon. If that does not happen, I suggest posting you question in the Premiere Elements forum.
PSE and PE share the same organizer and are able to play the same videos. The video experts are there.

Reading this topic does not lead me to any obvious conclusions.
The most common fix in this forum for video playback issues is to update the Nvidia driver from Nvidia. Sometimes it takes a roll back.
Another possibility is the files. AVI, MOV, and MP4 are "containers" that can have an amazing variety of codecs within them. Premiere Elements, and I assume Organizer, seems to be aimed at codecs from common cameras. Other sources of video may have codecs unusable to Premiere Elements. A common fix for that is to use Handbrake to make conversions.

Thanks for your tips. I have update my "Intel HD 520" graphics driver to the newest version, rebooted, cleared the Elements Media Cache, started PSE2018 again.
And the same problem presists: I cannot start the videos from PSE, it says "preparing".
Yet I can start and view the videos with VLC, Windows Media Player, Quicktime Player.
The formats not working under PSE2018 are all I have, like mp4, mov, mpg, avi.
The videos start under PSE12.
Do you have any further hints?

Hi,
could you please try creating a slideshow with videos and share what the results are? does slideshow playback occur? Do the videos play inside of the slideshow?
Thanks

Just installed PSE2019, and converted the catalog. There are no problems with ethe playback of videos.
Thtied PSE2018 again and the problem persists (using old/renamed catalog). Also, the slideshow was generated but it doesn't show anything except the black screen. Interestingly, when I select the media on the left it shows the still picture (from the video of the picture) but it turns black again when I hit play.
I will out the next 5 days.
