I am running the trial on Elements 2019, but won't buy it because it it abominably slow. Even loading pictures from a phone is nap time.

Sorry, @I meant downloading from a camera. I am so ticked off I can't even think straight right now. After spending big money to get a new Mac so I could get the newest Elements, it is useless.

Could you please check your CPU usage, and try closing any heavy apps running on your system.
Just in case if you still face the performance issue, we would be happy to help you.
Thanks

The only things running are Elements 36-40%, Activity Finder 0.12% and Finder 1.4%. The computer is new.

When I tried to use the selection tool in Elements, Elements usage went to 139%, which is rather strange. The cursor turned into a small rotating circle of circles.

If you are working with a new catalog, or even if you are working with a converted catalog, the first thing Elements Organizer does is analyze your photos for face recognition, smart tagging and auto creations. This can take a while, depending on how many photos and videos are in your catalog.
You can turn off auto-analysis in Preferences to see whether that makes any difference.

I am having the same issue. An hour after the Organizer is launched, it is still loading thumbnails (all Media Analysis options are OFF). Total catalog size is 8,000 photos. In PSE 9, the same catalog completely loads in less than 30 seconds.
It takes 3 to 4 minutes for a photo to open in the PSE 2019 Editor.
I am currently running the 30 day trial version of PSE 2019. Really wanted to upgrade to a newer version from PSE 9. But with the dismal performance of PSE 2019, it looks like I will have to stay with PSE 9. Really disappointing to see new software versions run at such a snail's pace compared to older versions.

It is a little discouraging that Adobe seems to have an issue with getting the software streamlined to provide fast performance on a broad range of computer platforms. I don't know if all the "bloatware" they are now including as "help tutorials" is part of the problem or not.
I re-installed the trial version on my computer (WIN7 Pro, 64 bit) and am getting better performance now. So, I don't know if I had a bad download the first time or not. You might try a re-install to see if that helps.
In lieu of that, have you looked at "Affinity Photo"? It appears to be a more powerful photo editor that PSE (and without the bloatware), but it does not include a photo "Organizer" feature, i.e., it is just an editor that is nearly on par with the full Adobe Photoshop program. So, if you don't need the PSE Organizer, you might check out Affinity Photo, very attractive price.

I have the full version and it's no better. One of the sales features for upgrading this time (this is my 4th or 5th upgrade over the years) was that it was much faster - no it isn't. Elements 15 running on the same setup is much quicker.

Had an Adobe guy make some changes in the security settings to allow PSE to operate. Improved a lot, but still not a quick program with spinning wheel appearing randomly during operation. Something is amiss and I hope they find it quick.

I'm having the same problem. I'm using an 18 core imac pro with 16 gig of ram and even with just PSE running, I am constantly getting spinning beach ball for simple actions such as adjusting sharpening. I am kicking myself for not using the trial version first. I moved up from Elements 14 and foolishly thought the product was mature enough to be reliable. Also, why do we have to be logged into our Adobe Account to use the PSE 2019 Editor?
With regard to Affinity Pro. It's a very capable editor but the workflow seems very clumsy compared to PSE

I was using PSE14 and loved it but felt like I should update for a class I'm taking. I'm so disappointed and discouraged!!. PSE2019 is extremely slow. Takes forever for anything to even open and then to load something I have to sit and wait and wait. This is not right. I'm using Windows 7 and have had no trouble with other programs. Seems like there are a lot of complaints about this version. What does Adobe suggest?

I have Adobe Elements 15 for Mac. It's so slow I never use it.
I was hopeful that this problem had been solved - I would have downloaded the updated version. But it obviously has not.
Adobe is off my wishlist.
