I have tried a full backup from my external hard drive where my catalog and images reside to another external hard drive. When I went to restore it to my new laptop there was not file called backup.tly. The last file is catalog.buc. So I did it all again still no joy. The backup finishes with a message "there was a problem with file Redpolls.jpeg".
How do I proceed please?
Search your catalog for the Redpolls.jpeg and delete it from the catalog. Also, it is best practice to make sure you don't have any missing files.

Thanks Greg.I will rerun the backup to find the problem file. I have some missing files but I do not understand the reconnect process. Is there a simple guide?

If you double-click on a missing file, a reconnect dialog will come up. In that dialog, you will find the name of the missing file and the location of where the Organizer thinks it should be. There is also a navigation box that allows you to identify the actual storage location of the missing file. If you have several missing files that were originally in the same folder, once you identify the location of one of the files, the rest of the files will normally be found automatically.
If you only have a few missing files, you may want to just delete them from the catalog to make the process faster.

I found some old videos in the catalog that were on the c drive rather than the external d drive . I went through them and deleted them all.
I then tried to back up again and it worked. Many thanks again
