Photoshop Elements v15: Own a license, sign on required to use editor, WHY?

I own a license to Photoshop Elements v15.  I run Windows 10 on a Dell laptop.  Windows updates are current.  Until today, I could select to edit an image from organizer, the editor would load and I could edit the image.  This afternoon, after selecting to edit an image in the organizer, Elements responds with a panel with trial software requirements and a dialogue that requires sign in to continue.  Why?

I established a chat session with Adobe.  Apparently the application lost my serial numbers somehow.  I had to sign on with my Adobe ID and select to license the software.  I re-entered the serial numbers for both Elements and Premier Elements and the problem was resolved.
