Pixelated Downloaded Images

New Here ,
Sep 09, 2023 Sep 09, 2023

We just started taking photos with a Galaxy S23.  We use the photo downloader to load the images from the phone to the Organizer.  Lately all the photos appear pixelated when they appear in the Organizer.  We tend to try to load about 800 photos at a time.  We have never had this problem with our older phones.  I'm a very amature photographer.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What  is the resolution of these photo-files?

Open one of the files in the Editor, go to Image>Resize>Image size, and you can ascertain the resolution in px/in.

The concensus among the cognoscenti is that  72px/in is ok for viewing web content on a computer screen. For printing, 240-300px/in is a desirable range, although I have printed successfully at lower values. How does a test print look obtained via the Editor? And how does one of your images look on another computer/screen?

Your phone files can be very high resolution, so I suspect that you are viewing a temporary thumbnail.  Try selecting a file and updating the thumbnail by pressing Ctrl+Shift+U.  Elements will refresh the thumbnails automatically but it sometimes takes a while to do so.

Thanks for the suggestion. I imagine the resolution is much higher on the new phones. I did try selecting a few images, one at a time, but with no luck. The images stayed pixelated?

What is the resolution size of your monitor and what is the format and resolution in Megapixels of youir Galaxy S23 photos?  IIRC, the camera can take photos that exceed 100 MP.  If that is the case, you may be running into the Organizer's Maximum file size problem.  Normally when this happens, a generic icon will be seen in the Organizer.  But perhaps you are seeing the file's internal thumbnail.  See this HelpX article for more details.

One interestimg addition.  When we loaded the images onto a flashdrive and then loaded them from there into the organizer, they were no longer pixelated.  Maybe this will help?
