problem updating camera raw with Elements 14

New Here ,
Aug 14, 2017 Aug 14, 2017

I have Photoshop elements 14.  Version: 14.1

Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit

camera raw does not recognize pictures from my Nikon d3400

When I attempt to update the message says applications are all up to date

help/about plugin  shows Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw version 9.5.0.585

I have downloaded newer versions of Camera Raw  9_12 and 9_1_1

each time it goes through process of installing, no error message, but version shows does not change and continues to be unable to process raw photo data

Raw does work on jpeg file

Any suggestions on how I can effectively update the Camera Raw plugin

Cameras supported by Camera Raw

The Nikon D3400 was first supported in Camera Raw 9.7.

Camera Raw plug-in and Adobe application compatibility

Elements 14 is only compatible with Camera Raw up to version 9.5 so you'll never be able to open D3400 Raw files in Elements 14.

Options:

  1. Pay to upgrade to Elements 15 and open Raw files in PSE 15, or
  2. Keep Elements 14 and download the free Adobe DNG converter. Using the DNG converter, batch convert folders of D3400 Raw files to DNG format (even if you only want to convert one Raw file). Then, when you want to edit your images, you open the converted DNG files (not the Raw files) in Elements 14. An extra step for you but no extra cost. DNG is a generic Raw format so there's no loss in quality.

Different camera, same solution.

Pay to upgrade to Elements 2018 or stay with Elements 15 and use the free DNG converter.
