PSE and Raw files

New Here ,
May 31, 2018 May 31, 2018

I recently bought a Canon 77D which was the upgraded version of my previous camera. Never had problems with RAW images before but now PSE14 does not recognize this file.

When I downloaded the images to my computer they all had a bluish purple cast to them  But the JPGs look normal.  I tried to open the CR2 with PSE14 and that is when I got an error message:  If you are attempting to open a RAW file from a digital camera make sure you have the latest camera raw update installed  via help > updates.....   (I don't have a clue what this means)

If the problem persists visit the following link for more information

This is just a link to the supported cameras

What can I do?  Possibly there is another editing program that will open these?

Canon showed me a way around this with their software but it is all too confusing for me to use as I am so used to PSE and the way the RAW editor works.

faq:

FAQ: Will Photoshop Elements work with my camera, or Why won't my raw files open?

Very simple.
Each new camera model comes with its own new and unique raw format that any editing software issued before the camera is on the market can't understand and edit. Your camera is newer than PSE14.

If you have a look at the links in that faq, you can see that:

- your camera requires ACR 9.10

- PSE14 is not compatible with newer than ACR 9.5<;

So, if you don't want to pay the update for Elements 2018, what you have to do is to use the Adobe DNGconverter mentioned in that faq. That free standalone software (not a plugin) can batch convert a whole folder of your CR2 files to the DNG raw format that your PSE14 can read and edit. No quality loss, free but you need an additional (batch step) to convert to DNG.
