PSE9 Eraser is drawing instead of erasing

In the past, I've never had a problem with the eraser until today.

Instead of erasing, it will use the second color that you can use with your brush. I'm not sure what it is called, but it where you can choose colors for your brushes. My brushes seem to work fine, so it is just the eraser brush.

I've already uninstalled PSE9, reset PSE9 back to default settings, and reset all tools settings with no luck.

I'm feel extremely discouraged right now considering none of my friends who have the PS or any sorts understand how to fix it.

Someone please help me.

It sounds like maybe your using the eraser tool on a background layer and color your seeing is the same as the background color swatch in the tool box.

Could you post a screenshot of the pse 9 workspace including the layers panel?

I was originally thinking of that, but I've never had this problem in the past.

I hope this screenshot will help. If you want, I could also take a screenshot with me using the eraser tool to show you what happens when I use it.

I usually keep the base layer on transparent lock so I don't go outside of the lines, and usually I can erase on the layer as well without it doing something strange.

You have the brush tool selected in screenshot.

If you post a screenshot of the eraser tool settings and the result that might yield more info.

Also, i guess it's possible that a blending mode inside one of the layer groups is causing the issue.

If your using the easer tool on the Color layer, then i suspect it's because the transparency is locked on that layer.

Instead of locking the transparency, you could Ctrl click on the Color layer thumbnail in the layers panel to load a selection of the transparency and then you won't go outside the "lines" while erasing.

Or add a layer mask to the Color layer and paint with black on the layer mask to hide the areas.
