Punctuation in wrong place

I am working with Photoshop Elements and suddenly the punctation in my text box is appearing at the beginning of the line instead of at the end. I see fixes for this online for the full Photoshop program, but not elements. I have already reset the type tool, as well as reset all the preferences, and restarted the program. It is typing in English and when I go to a different program (ie Microsoft Word) this does not happen. There is some setting in Elements that got messed up and I can't figure it out. How do I correct this?

What version of photoshop elements and operating system are you using?

I am using elements 24.0 and windows 10. I've had this issue with my previous version as well (22) but usually when I close and re-open the program with a new document the problem is fixed. This time it isn't.

Is your operating system language set to English?

yes. Now it is working fine again spontaneously. It's like I accidentally hit some shortcut key without realizing it and eventually it reset itself. This has happened intermittently in the past and I can't figure it out.
