Query - how to amend text on a picture background

I'd be very grateful for some urgent help. I am preparing a book for publication with Create Space. When I reviewed the uploaded back cover, I noted a typo in the blurb - one word is missing one letter. I've opened it up in Photoshop (Elements 12) but I simply don't know how to insert the missing letter. I got as far as using the Typeface button, put in the font and size, but it does not allow me to move anything to create the extra space. The background has a quite detailed image and I dread having to start from scratch. Is there a SIMPLE way (I put that in caps because I am a technological idiot!!) of doing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Once the layers have been flattened, there is no way to edit the text.

However, perhaps one can select the "detailed image" in order to preserve it, and place it on a new background with appropriate text.

Suggest that you post the file of the back cover for targeted guidance. You can do that via the 'Insert Image' icon at the top of the reply message box. You can not do it in an e-mail reply.

Very many thanks for such a prompt reply - it is greatly appreciated. Because I've had to upgrade from my beloved Elements 4 (!!) to Elements 12, everything I am used to is now all over the place and I'm really struggling to find my way around! What I have eventually done is to (laboriously) use the clone tool to clone out the line with the missing letter, and then re-insert the type again - which has done the job, although I am sure it is going to look extremely amateurish (which, of course, it is!).
