I am using Photoshop Elements 9.0 on an iMac with Apple Sierra IOS. Over the past year a question mark has been appearing in the upper left on some of my photos in the Organizer mode. When I click on the photo it goes to a search mode but never finds the photo. This problem has grown until today all my photos have the cursed question mark. How do I recover from this? Thanks. Hi,
This is a missing file icon apearing on your pictures. This appears when pictures are no longer at the same location in your system, they were at the time you imported them. You have probably moved, renamed, or deleted them from outside of Elements Organizer. The search happens because organizer is trying to search those files.
You can reconnect these files again if they are still present in your system i.e. have not been deleted.
Please read 'Reconnect missing files in a catalog' section of the below link to reconnect them:
Thanks!

Apologies first detoprod as this isn't a " cure". I'm somewhat at ease to see I'm not the only one with this problem 😳. What I would like to add and hope I get the great responses previous is : If I import a photo into elements organiser now I will get the question mark straight away? How can the file be lost I've only just loaded it?? Please help.
