Suddenly the Whiten Teeth (F) in Photoshop Elements 12 Quick Mode is making teeth dark grey instead of white. I do not know what has changed this. Does anyone know how I can fix it?

Not sure why unless the pearl layer is reflecting more of the underlying color. You can tweak the effect in Expert mode e.g. after selecting the teeth switch to Expert mode and then open the layers pallet. Click on the adjustment thumbnail to the left of the black mask. It should be outlined in blue. Then double click on it to bring up the color picker. Clicking near the top left (pure white) will change the overlay. See image below.

Thank you. Using the the Whiten Teeth in Quick Mode still turns the teeth dark grey but doing what you suggested in the Expert mode then changes that dark grey to a normal white shade.
I will use this until I can figure out how to fix the Whiten Teeth in Quick Mode.

You might try this alternate method:
1. Select and feather teeth 1 or 2 px.
2. Enhance > Adjust Color > Hue/Saturation, or add a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer.
Choose Yellows from pull-down list.
Lower Saturation to remove yellow. Optionally increase Lightness.
3. To brighten teeth, Enhance > Adjust Brightness/Contrast>Brightness
Here I moved Saturation all the way left and changed Lightness to +50.

Thanks Arsha.
Resetting the preferences did not work as the tool still darkens as opposed to whitening teeth but I am using the workaround instead now so all good.
