Using Photoshop Elements to process raw images from Canon 5d Mark iii, images are grainy and ununsable. They are fine when using Canon Photo Professional, 4 and they were also fine in earlier versions of Elements. Any suggestions?

Have you downloaded the Camera Raw editor? If not, go to the Help menu and click on Install Camera Raw.

What OS are you using and did you use the Canon software to download the files from your camera?
Are you using the Organizer? Are the photos only grainy there or are they also grainy in the Editor? If you are using the Organizer is there any improvement if you update the thumbnail? (Ctrl+Shift+U).
Can you show us a screenshot of a problem photo compared with the same photo in an earlier version of Elements?

Thanks for replying - I am using a PC with Windows 10 pro. I am not using the Organizer, but I did open one of the pics and updated the thumbnail as you mentioned. It was better. I don't have the old version of Elements so I can't compare - I just have othe raw pictures that I processed that didn't have any problems. I think the update is my answer. Thanks a lot for your help. I appreciate it and will try this on other pics.

A couple of quick things:
Your camera is an older model- it only requires at least ACR 7.1, however, do as instructed by Greg S. and you should not have any issues.
When you use ACR in Photoshop elements you are working on a copy of the raw file-- the original remains untouched- your raw files are safe.
