Re-read jpg metadata in PSE15

Hello, is it possible to re-read the metadata of jpg-files in PSE15?

Situation: I have over 50.000 images and used to manage them in Photoshop Album Starter. As it didn't seem feasible to migrate the old catalog to a PSE15 catalog, I started all over again cataloging (now using the face recognition).

However, recently I found a way to migrate the old catalog to (another) PSE15 catalog. In that new catalog I have used the option to export the tags to the exif-file of the pictures.

Now the metadata in the pictures are filled in with the tags and I would like to import (re-read) the metadata to use in the catalog I've been working in (the one using face recognition).

(Why I still looked to migrate the old database: I have twins and for the baby pictures it is extremely difficult seeing who is who... and the face recognition doesn't seem to work for identical twins. :-)).

Is it possible to re-read the metadata?

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards

Inge

Inge,

Unfortunately, I'll have to tell the bad news: I don't see any way for the organizer to do what you want, that is to recover the tags and metadata created in a catalog and 'written to files' into another catalog with the same pictures; the only way to recover those embedded metadata is to re-import in a new catalog; and it's very difficult to merge catalogs.

As far as I know, you could probably do what you want in Lightroom. You can convert a catalog from the organizer to a Lightroom one, an

Note: when I look in the detailed information of each picture, I see the IPTC info has indeed been updated with the correct tags. However, I doens't show using the menu 'search' / 'details (metadata)'. And that's what I need, being able to search the updated metadata. So that I can for example search all metadata with 'daughter 1' and assign a correct tag to it in bulk.

Hello Michel,

Thank you for the quick and clear reply. It seems I'll have to make the choice to either try the migration to Lightroom or to continue in PSE but based on the 'old' (Album Starter based) catalog and do the face recognition all over again. I was planning on investigation how Lightroom works with tags anyway so maybe that's the way to go.

Kind regards

Inge
