Refining Outer Glow?

New Here ,
Aug 07, 2017 Aug 07, 2017

I'm familiar with Photoshop and am now experimenting with Elements and it seems that the Outer Glow feature has less refinement options and can really only create a soft glow. In Photoshop I was able to tighten up the glow using the Range slider to where it was almost as opaque as a Stroke. Is this just one of the limitations of Elements essentially being Photshop Lite?

Yes it's a case of photoshop elements not having as many adjustments available for the various layer styles like photoshop has.

There are a variety of Outer Glows available under Window>Styles>Out Glows.

Also, did you try to switch to the layers panel and to click on the 'fx' black icon on the right of the layer?

That lets you customize the glow.

Thanks for the reply. I have played around with the Styles Panel and while it doesn't seem to give me as much control as PS did, I am able to refine the Outer Glow a little more than I had first thought.. One other way I've been doing it is to Duplicate the layer, add a Stroke to the Layer underneath and play with the Opacity and Blur a little bit to get a more solid looking glow.

Thanks again 🙂
