resizing a photo/changing pixels amount

New Here ,
Aug 18, 2018 Aug 18, 2018

I made a mistake and took pictures with the picture size for emails or attachments (640x480 with a 4x3 ratio).  I want to be able to resize the pictures so I can make a 8x10 print or put it in a photo book with good quality.  When I tried to resize the photo my computer said that I did not have enough RAM memory.  Is there anything that that I am going to be able to do to make the pictures so they are a decent quality?  The pictures are mostly landscape pictures.  How much RAM memory would I need?  What would I need to do, short of recreating the vacation?  I have Photoshop14.

You are talking about an almost 2X upsize. I do not think you could achieve sufficient quality to print 8X10. In general 150 pixels per inch is the lowest that will yield a good print, although depending on the subject matter you may get away with 125. That is 1250 on the long side.

I'm a little lost here. You make reference  to RAM memory, and poster Hobo31 refers to resolution (px/in).

So that we are all on the same page, kathyg49326415, please open your image file, go to Image>resize>Image size and read what the resolution is in px/in.

Sorry to confuse you

I have no idea re her RAM problem.

Just trying to point out that even with enough RAM the upsizing does not have a good chance of working.

Does not matter what the resolution is; she has got 640 pixels X direction and 480 in Y.

In order to have adequate # of pixels for printing an 8X10 the number of pixels would have to be doubled in both directions.

A tall order.@

Agree with you!

However, a prompt about insufficient RAM has surfaced as a result of a recent Windows 10 update, and there are many posts on this board as they relate to this issue.

Error: An integer between 50 and 8 is required | Elements | Windows 10

Just trying to sort things out; I suspect that there may be two issues that need consideration by OP.
