Hello! I use PS Elements 2022 and am having a problem editing for Instagram. My camera is a Canon 5D Mark 3 and I have it set at MRaw & L Jpeg. In PS Elements, I always set my dimensions at 2500px (something my web guy told me to do to ensure that the photos look good on my site). According to Instagram, they automatically resize the photos if they're not the right size, so I have no idea why this is happening. Is there something I can do in PS Elements to fix the problem? I tried resizing, but it distorted the image. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Attached is the photo I tried to upload to Instagram as well as a screenshot of the way Instagram cropped it. Thank you!! 🙂

Instagram always changes the size of photos. Here is an article that explains it. I don't know whether it is out of date or not.
In order to avoid distortion when resizing an image that is not the same pixel aspect ratio of the original photo file, it would be best to crop it to the correct aspect ratio rather than try to fit a round peg into a square hole.

Thank you! I actually did resize it to the exact dimensions, and it still looked cropped (top missing) when I uploaded it to Instagram. I'm wondering if it may be that I'm looking on a desktop.

In regard to posting photos on Instagram, can you ascertain the maximum dimensions (H&W) that are acceptable?
Cropping a photo may be acceptable in some instances. But if the crop discards important information, it will not work for you.
Resizing is the other option. Go to Image>resize>Image size. In the dialog that opens, you can read the Pixel dimensions, and in the document size field you can change the H & W. Be sure that "Constrain Proportions" and "Resample Image" are checked. For resolution enter 72 px/in (OK for web posting)

Thank you! I did that (constraining & resampling), but the photo still looks too large for Instagram. I'm wondering if it's because I'm posting from my desktop and not my phone? I much prefer the larger keyboard on a desktop, but I know Instagram was made to use on phones.

They sure make it hard to find Help on Instagram. Here is a link to the current image resolution information for posting on Instagram. It looks like they will not alter an image if the width is no bigger than 1080 px and the aspect resolution is as described.

Yes, it seems they do! Thank you for the link. I'll definitely check it out!
