Retaining background when photos removed

New Here ,
Apr 16, 2023 Apr 16, 2023

Hello, I have a photo album with six photos on black paper and comments on the paper in white crayon.

Three of the photos have a red cast which I want to remove.

I then want to place the modified photos back on the page.

Currently I have scanned the page to a tiff file.

How can I remove the three photos to modify them and keep the background with the OK photos and the comments so I can replace the modified photos once the red cast has been removed

Thanks

Martin

If I understand you correctly, there are several ways to do this.  Here is one:

  • Select one of the red-cast photos e.g. using the rectangular marquee tool.
  • Create a new layer from the selection by pressing Ctrl+J
  • Do the same for the other photos that have the red cast.
  • Select each new layer and make the necessary color adjustment to that layer.
  • Depending on what you want to do with the final image, save the corrected file and/or flatten the layers.

Dear Greg S,

Many thanks for your reply.  As you have probably guessed I am new to Photoshop so this help is invaluable so I can just get over the specific problem. As soon as I have looked at some tutorials on Layers I will give it a go and let you know how it went but it may be a while.

Many thanks again

All the best

Martin
