Are you scanning from the Editor or the Organizer or both?  What exactly is the problem?  Are you getting any error messages?

Greg, thanks for your reply. I apologize for the delayed response. I was on vacation with my family and just now catching up on my email. To answer your question, yes, I was getting a message stating that No WIA compatible devices detected.

I recently had my hard drive replaced and had to reinstall some of my apps. One of those was my older Photoshop Elements 18 app. Prior to the recent changes, I was able to scan photos and import from that app. I now get that message. I assume that something changed with an updated version of PSE 18. Nothing has changed with my HP printer.

All is not lost. I am able to scan and save a photo with my HP printer and move into my pictures file. I can then open with my PSE 18 app and edit my photo. That's an extra step but not really a big deal. I thought that I was probably doing something wrong but have now heard that the updated PSE 18 may not be compatible with my HP Pro 8600 printer.

Thanks again for your reply and expert help. I am not very tech savvy and always repect experts like you. Especially, ones who take the time to try to help.  If you have anything to add, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Do you have WIA support for your printer (Which has been discontinued by the manufacturer)?

I am guessing that you do not, and that is your problem.

I have a brand new Epson ET 2803.  I can't import directly into PSE.   I've tried with other versions of PSE, and Photoshop, and can't import (acquire/scan) with my new scanner- my old scanner could do it)  I just use paperport (It's old but solid) and import from that.   I have other scanner programs I can use as well

Bottom line:  I"m pretty sure you printer lacks WIA support.

Hi Glenn, thanks for your reply. I recently had my hard drive replaced and re-installed PSE 18. When trying to scan and import from my HP 8600 printer, I got the following message: No WIA compatible devices were detected. As you implied, I think my updated PSE 18 app is not compatible with my printer. Do you agree? I can use the HP scanner to acquire the image and file in Pictures. I can then import and edit the photo with PSE 18. Not a big deal but thought that I was doing something wrong since that extra step was not previously needed.

Thanks for your reply. I sincerely appreciate experts like you who are willing to share with novices like me.
