Recently installed Photoshop Elements 2020 on a new MS Surface 3 laptop with Windows 10.  When I create a slideshow,  it goes immediatly to preview. The window with the icons for editing does not show up. It allows me to save the slideshow but the filename does not show up in projects. I've reinstalled the program and made sure that all software updates are current.  Problem still persists. Please help me.

It is normal for the preview to generate before any editing can take place.  Please show us a screenshot of your full screen once the preview has been generated.

A software update from Microsoft fixed the problem.  I have full functionality for slideshows. Thanks for your response.

I have the exact same problem with sizing of the Slideshow preview window, The controls don't display correctly on the left side and the controls are missing at the top. Did you get your problem resolved?

This is what worked for me

Browse to: C:\Users\(UserName)AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Elements Organizer(Version Number)
• Open file "Debug Database"
• Change "DS.ForceCPUOnly false false" to "DS.ForceCPUOnly true false"
* Restart your machine & check the Elements Organizer.

Just to make it more confusing Adobe elements 2020 is actually version 18

best of luck
